During the medical mission, the people of Ejemekwuru gathered to show their deep gratitude to Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Ikechi Ihemedu. In a heartfelt moment, they asked him to kneel as they stretched out their hands to pray for him. It was a touching sight, as elderly men, women, and even young children joined in, blessing the priest who has given so much to the community.
Fr. Emmanuel played a key role in bringing the founder of MaryCare, Ann Bates, to Ejemekwuru many years ago. When Ann Bates saw the suffering of the people, she insisted that a one-time medical mission was not enough. She saw the need for a permanent health facility in the village, which led to the establishment of MaryCare Health Centre. Since then, the clinic has provided free medical care to the community all year round, serving as a beacon of hope for many who otherwise would not have access to healthcare.
Though Ann Bates has passed away, her legacy lives on through MaryCare. Today, Fr. Emmanuel, as the President of MaryCare, continues to ensure that the clinic operates efficiently and that the annual medical mission remains a reality. His dedication is a beacon of hope for the people of Ejemekwuru. His work reminds us that one person’s vision, when fueled by compassion and commitment, can change the lives of many. As the medical mission grows and the clinic expands its services, the impact of Ann Bates’ dream and Fr. Emmanuel’s leadership continues to inspire.
